Excess Flow Valves automatically stop the flow of gas when there is a sudden spike in gas flow due to a rupture in the gas line supplying gas to the home. The excess flow valves installed by gas utilities are exterior to the house, preventing unintentional release of gas when a landscaping excavation inadvertently punctures the gas line.

TECO Americas also provides GST Excess Flow Valves to stop gas from flowing within the house, whenever a pre-set maximum flow rate is accidentally exceeded. The GST excess flow valve resets automatically once normal operating conditions are restored. The GST Excess Flow Valve has been protecting families and homes throughout the world since the 1990’s. Excess flow valves are mandated in Germany when plastic multilayer gas piping is used.
